Colorado Grand

Each fall, the Colorado Grand runs through the mountains and landscape of the American west. This rally attracts some of the best cars both nationally and internationally for four days and 1000 miles. Raising money for charities (over $ 2 mil to date), it brings together cars, people and scenery. It is limited by invitation to a tight selection of sports racers and special cars from 1962 and earlier. My wife and I have done this event now 6 times (always in an Aurelia), and have enjoyed it immensely. The event is for people who really want to drive their cars - through snow, slush, desert heat , open roads and up several mountain passes. The cars work hard - the mere beauty queens stay home.

The B24 performed admirably - strong up the mountains, and smooth down. I was accompanied by Ed Godshalk, another Aurelia buff who contributed driving tips, general mechanical wizardry, and great conversation. There were too many interesting cars to see them all (about 80 in total) - some are shown below - and some stunning scenery.

Fun in the mountains
